Chapter 3 The Leader's preparation: How God Developes Leaders

On the first page of this chapter it states: "The best thing leaders can do for their organizations is to grow personally."

What have you found that has helped you grow as an individual or leader. (this could be a class or a book or someone)?

On page 47 it talks about how God redeems us from our mistakes.  I pray that is true.  When I taught high school, I used to pray each morning that I would not make a mistake with some child and if I did I prayed that God would somehow use that mistake for good.  I am sure that I was not always encouraging and up lifting to some students, especially if they were hard to like.  And those students were probably the ones that needed the encouragement the most.

Something that I feel God has been trying to teach me lately is submission to authority even when I feel that what I am being asked to do is not something, in my opinion, that is wise.  But the message I learned both from a Podcast of Andy Stanley and a sermon at church, was that we need to ask "Who not What".  Because God has put those in authority over us, ultimately, we are submitting to God.  And God has used "un-wise" decisions in history to bring about good (for instance even the decision to crucify a good person).

Do you struggle with the Authorities in your job or life?

Chapter 2 The Leader's role: What Leaders do

On page 19 end of the first paragraph , it talks about how God uses the weak of this world, sure glad to hear that because some days I am leaning a lot on God.

Page 20 first Point: The spiritual leader's task is to move people from where they are to where God wants them to be.  Question: Are we put in this position not for ourselves but for someone else that God wants to move?  Who have we been given to influence?

Last statement of that paragraph "When spiritual leaders have done their jobs, the people around them have encountered God"  Wow! what a responsibility!

Page 22 Point 5 - Not sure I have achieve being less self-centered :(  Last sentence of #5 on page #23.  I wonder what God has in mind for Kaiser or those around us.  I am excited about being a part of His plan.

Looking forward to hearing from you all

Spiritual Leadership

Chapter One - Thoughts
On page 14 it states that "Every person, Christian and not-Christian alike, is a spiritual person with spiritual needs. Employees, clients and governing boards have spiritual needs God can meet through his servants in the workplace.

On page 15 it states that " Christian leaders who know God and who know how to lead in a Christian manner will be phenomenally more effective than even the most skilled and qualified leaders who lead without God

  • If this is true than we should be able to influence our work and/or those in our life for the better and make our workplace succeed in a positive way
  • If this is true than what I want is to learn what I can from this book how to integrate my life so that God can help me have an influence on those around me and ultimately make my life better too.

On pages 4 and 5 the book discusses how technology has not made it easier to do our jobs but harder,

  • I hope that the book discusses this more so that I can learn how to tame technology.....
  • or be reactive to the pressure that technology puts on me in a more positive and beneficial way that will enhance my relationships and not keep me so busy that the relationships suffer.

Finally, I hope as we read and discuss that we will all be able to share what is working for each of us individually, so that collectively we will all grow in our relationship with each other and also in our trust on and relationship with our creator.
